Sort all your bookmarks alphabetically, in every folder
Chrome sorts one folder at a time. Drop your bookmarks export here to sort every folder and subfolder at once, by name, website or the date you saved each link, then import the result.

How the sorting works
- Natural order: “Chapter 2” comes before “Chapter 10”, and capital letters don’t jump ahead of lowercase ones.
- Website: groups links from the same site together (ignoring
www.), then sorts by title within each site. - Date: uses the date added stored in the export. Links without one go last.
- Top level: with Keep the bookmarks bar first ticked, the top folders stay in their original order and everything inside them is sorted.
Sort a single folder in Chrome instead
For one folder, Chrome can do it itself. The steps, and how to undo a sort, are in how to sort Chrome bookmarks alphabetically.
Export your bookmarks from Chrome first
- Open
chrome://bookmarks(Ctrl+Shift+O, or Cmd+Option+B on a Mac). - Click the three-dot menu at the top right and choose Export bookmarks.
- Save the
.htmlfile, then drop it into the box above.
Edge, Firefox, Safari, Brave, Opera and Vivaldi export the same kind of file. The full walkthrough, with backups, is in how to export Chrome bookmarks; for the others see Edge, Firefox, Safari, Brave and Opera.
Put the sorted bookmarks back
Importing adds a new folder next to your current bookmarks. To replace them, keep your original export as a backup, delete the old bookmarks in chrome://bookmarks, then import the sorted file.
Questions
Can Chrome sort all bookmarks alphabetically at once?
No. Chrome sorts the folder you have open in the Bookmark Manager, one folder at a time. This tool sorts every folder in one pass.
Can I sort by date added?
Yes, newest or oldest first, using the dates stored in your export. Chrome itself has no sort by date.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. The page reads the file with your browser’s own file reader and builds the new file on your computer. You can load the page, turn off Wi-Fi and it still works.
