How to save all your open tabs in Microsoft Edge

Updated 18 October 2026

Press Ctrl+Shift+D (Command+Shift+D on a Mac) and Edge saves all open tabs as favorites in a new folder. To keep your tabs when you close Edge, go to Settings > Start, home, and new tab page and choose Open tabs from the previous session.

1. Save all tabs as favorites

  1. Press Ctrl+Shift+D (Command+Shift+D on a Mac). Microsoft’s shortcut list describes it as saving all open tabs as favorites in a new folder.
  2. Prefer menus? Select Settings and more (…) > Favorites, then More options (…) > Add open pages to favorites.
  3. Open Favorites (Ctrl+Shift+O, or Settings and more > Favorites on a Mac), find the new folder and give it a name you’ll recognize. To show it on the favorites bar, drag it into the Favorites bar folder.

The tabs stay open, so close them yourself once the folder is saved. The command covers the window you’re in: in Chromium, the open source browser Edge is built on, it saves the current window’s tabs. With three windows open, do it in each one.

To reopen them: right-click the folder on the favorites bar and choose Open all, or Open all in new window. Bar hidden? Ctrl+Shift+B (Command+Shift+B on a Mac) shows it; more on the favorites bar.

2. Keep your tabs when you close Edge

  1. Select Settings and more (…) > Settings.
  2. Select Start, home, and new tab page.
  3. Under When Edge starts, choose Open tabs from the previous session.

Edge then reopens the tabs from your last session each time it starts, tab groups included, and keeps session cookies so you stay signed in to sites. If you also have Edge clear browsing data every time it closes, Microsoft says the data you picked is deleted and the tabs still come back.

InPrivate and Guest windows never come back, and a window you closed before quitting isn’t part of the session: it waits under History > Recently closed (more in reopening closed tabs in Edge). The setting remembers one session, so keep favorites of anything you’ll need next month.

3. Save a window as a workspace

A workspace keeps a set of tabs under a name, saved and kept up to date, so you can switch projects and come back later. It needs Edge 144 or later on Windows 10, Windows 11 or a Mac, signed in with a Microsoft account or a work or school account.

  1. Select Search tabs at the top left of the window, then Manage workspaces.
  2. Open the New Workspace drop-down and choose Create workspace with X tabs, where X is your tab count.
  3. Enter a name, pick a theme and select Done. The workspace opens in a new window.

Open it again from the workspaces menu at the top left. To send one tab to a workspace, right-click the tab and choose Move tab to. Microsoft took sharing out of Workspaces in 2026, so a workspace is for you alone.

What happened to Collections?

Older guides say to add your tabs to a collection. Microsoft retired Collections, and the feature is gone from Edge 149 (June 2026). Its retirement notice offered Move to Favorites, which turned each collection into a folder at the top level of Favorites, web pages only. With a personal Microsoft account, old collections are still at bing.com/saves.

Tip: A sleeping tab is still open. Edge puts inactive tabs to sleep to free memory, and since version 152 the default timer is 15 minutes (it was 2 hours). A tab asleep for a long time is discarded and reloads when you click it. Change the timer at edge://settings/system/managePerformance.

Got the links as a list? Our free open multiple URLs tool opens them all at once, and URLs to bookmarks turns them into a file Edge can import (importing into Edge); the OneTab converter does the same for a OneTab export. If you also use Chrome or Brave, Stackboard, a free extension for those two, stashes a whole window as bookmarks with Alt+Shift+S. Buried in tabs? Read too many tabs and tab bankruptcy.
