Convert a Session Buddy export into bookmarks

Updated 18 October 2026

Session managers keep saved windows in their own storage. Drop an export or backup from Session Buddy, Tab Session Manager or Workona here and get every saved session back as a folder of bookmarks.

🔒 Runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

1Add your file

Drop a session export or backup hereor click to choose the file (.json or .csv), or paste its contents below

2Check what was found

AppWhere to find itWhat the converter reads
Session Buddy 4Export on a collection (choose JSON or CSV), or the gear menu, BackupEach collection becomes a folder, with a subfolder per window when it has several
Session Buddy 3An older backup file (it starts with "format":"nxs.json.v1")Each saved session becomes a folder
Tab Session ManagerOptions, Sessions, Export Sessions, or Export on one sessionEach session becomes a folder, tabs in their original order
WorkonaIts space data export (a userData JSON file)Workspaces become folders, with their tabs and resources

Dates in session names come from the export where it has them, so “Research, 2026-03-14” tells you which save is which. Settings, favicons and window sizes are left out. The converter also accepts a bookmarks HTML file, OneTab text, a Toby export or a plain list of links, so you can drop in whatever your old tool produced.

Import the file into Chrome

  1. Open chrome://bookmarks (or press Ctrl+Shift+O, Cmd+Option+B on a Mac).
  2. Click the three-dot menu at the top right of the Bookmark Manager and choose Import bookmarks.
  3. Pick the .html file you downloaded. Chrome adds everything in a new folder, usually called Imported at the end of your bookmarks bar (look under Other bookmarks if it isn’t there), and your existing bookmarks stay as they are.

Edge, Brave, Firefox and Safari read the same file. Step-by-step versions: Chrome, Edge, Brave, Firefox and Safari.

Or load it straight into Stackboard

Stackboard shows your bookmarks as a board on Chrome’s new tab page. Download the Stackboard backup (.json) above, then open a new tab and go to Settings, Backup, Import JSON. Each folder becomes a stack you can rename, drag and reopen as a tab group, and everything is saved as ordinary Chrome bookmarks.

Questions

Which files does this accept?

Session Buddy JSON, CSV and backups (versions 3 and 4), Tab Session Manager exports, Workona data exports, plus bookmarks HTML files, OneTab text and Toby JSON.

Why are my folders called Window 1, Window 2?

If a saved window has no name in the export, it gets a number in the order it appears in the file. Rename the folders after importing, or rename the stacks in Stackboard.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The page reads the file with your browser’s own file reader and builds the new file on your computer. You can load the page, turn off Wi-Fi and it still works.

Your bookmarks, on every new tab

Stackboard is a free Chrome extension that lays out your bookmarks as a board on the new tab page. It stores everything as ordinary Chrome bookmarks, with no account.
