A Gruvbox new tab page for Chrome

Updated 18 October 2026

Gruvbox’s warm, low-contrast browns and oranges are easy on the eyes for long sessions. Stackboard brings the palette to Chrome’s new tab in both its light and dark versions, with your bookmarks laid out as stacks.

The colors

BackgroundCardsTextMuted textAccent
Gruvbox Light#fbf1c7#f9f5d7#3c3836#665c54#af3a03
Gruvbox Dark#282828#3c3836#ebdbb2#bdae93#fe8019

The values follow the original Gruvbox palette by Pavel Pertsev (morhetz): the classic #282828 background and orange accent in dark mode, the cream #fbf1c7 background in light mode.

Turn it on

  1. Add Stackboard to Chrome (or Brave) from the Chrome Web Store and open a new tab. Choose Keep it if Chrome asks whether to keep the new page.
  2. Click Settings in the sidebar, just under the search box. Appearance is the first section.
  3. Click the Gruvbox swatch. The board behind the dialog changes as you click, so you see it before you close Settings.
  4. Pick Light, Dark or System under Mode.

Background and density

Under the palette you can keep a solid color, pick one of three gradients made from the palette, or use your own picture with sliders to dim and blur it. The picture is stored in your browser on that computer and never uploaded. Over a picture, stacks and the sidebar turn into frosted panels so links stay readable. Compact density fits more stacks on a big board.
