How to import Chrome bookmarks into Microsoft Edge
Edge copies Chrome in one step: open Settings > Profiles > Import browser data, click Import next to Import data from Google Chrome, pick your Chrome profile and click Import. Your Chrome bookmarks become Edge favorites.
Import directly from Chrome
- In Edge, open the Settings and more menu (three dots at the top right) > Settings, then Profiles > Import browser data.
- Next to Import data from Google Chrome, click Import.
- Under Profile, pick the Chrome profile you want. Edge lists each one by name.
- Under Choose what to import, tick what you want and click Import. When Edge says it’s finished, click Done.
In Edge 155 on Windows (checked October 2026) the list offered favorites or bookmarks, saved passwords, autofill form data, payment info, browsing history, settings, extensions and open tabs. If passwords don’t come through, export them from Chrome as a CSV file (Google Password Manager > Settings > Export passwords) and use Import passwords now on the same Edge page.
Or import a bookmarks file
For a Chrome on another computer, export from Chrome first (Bookmark Manager > three-dot menu > Export bookmarks; see exporting Chrome bookmarks). Then, on Edge’s Import browser data page:
- Under Other import locations, click Import next to Import browser data now.
- Set Import from to Favorites or bookmarks HTML file.
- Click Choose file, pick the file and click Open.
Microsoft says the imported favorites appear in a folder on the Favorites bar, which may be named Imported.
Names that change
| Chrome | Edge |
|---|---|
| Bookmarks | Favorites |
| Bookmarks bar | Favorites bar |
| Other bookmarks | Other favorites |
chrome://bookmarks | edge://favorites |
After a direct import, open edge://favorites and look under Favorites bar and Other favorites for the new items. The same page has a Show favorites bar button if the bar is hidden.
Duplicates and sync
Running the import twice, or importing both directly and from a file, can leave you with two copies of everything. Edge can clean that up itself: Microsoft says its Favorites menu has an option to remove duplicate links, and Edge shows what it found before deleting anything. Imported favorites are ordinary favorites, so if you’re signed in with sync on, Edge carries them to your other devices; tidy up before that happens.
Keeping Chrome as well
Edge can repeat the Chrome import whenever you like. The reverse doesn’t work: Chrome can’t read today’s Edge, so moving back means exporting from Edge (see Edge to Chrome). Stackboard is a Chrome extension and hasn’t been tested in Edge, but if you used Stackboard in Chrome, its spaces are plain bookmarks in a Stackboard folder, so they arrive in Edge as favorites either way.
Common problems
- Can’t find the favorites: check both root folders on
edge://favorites, and use its search box with the name of a site you know you had. - Tab groups: Edge’s list includes open tabs, but nothing for Chrome’s saved tab groups. Open the groups in Chrome before you import, or bookmark their tabs with Ctrl+Shift+D so they come across as a folder.
- Wrong profile: if the favorites look unfamiliar, run the import again and pick another name under Profile, then remove the duplicates.
Questions
How do I import bookmarks from Chrome to Edge?
In Edge, go to Settings > Profiles > Import browser data and click Import next to Import data from Google Chrome. Choose the Chrome profile, keep Favorites or bookmarks ticked and click Import.
Can Edge import Chrome passwords and extensions?
Edge’s import list includes saved passwords and extensions. If passwords are missing afterwards, export a CSV from Chrome’s Google Password Manager and use Import passwords now.
Where do Chrome bookmarks go in Edge?
Into your favorites. A file import lands in a folder on the Favorites bar, which may be named Imported; after a direct import, check edge://favorites.
How do I remove duplicate favorites after importing?
Use the remove duplicates option in Edge’s Favorites menu. Microsoft says Edge shows you the duplicates before it deletes them.
Can I import Chrome tab groups into Edge?
Edge’s Chrome import offers open tabs, but no option for saved tab groups. Open the groups in Chrome first, or bookmark their tabs so they arrive as a folder.
