How to move Firefox bookmarks and passwords to Microsoft Edge

Updated 18 October 2026

Edge can copy your Firefox bookmarks by itself. Open Edge’s Settings > Profiles > Import browser data, click Import next to Import browser data now, choose Firefox in the Import from list and click Import. If Firefox lives on another computer, export bookmarks.html from Firefox’s Library and import that file.

Method 1: import from Firefox on the same computer

  1. Quit Firefox. Edge is built on Chromium, and Chromium’s importer stops and asks you to close Firefox while Firefox has its profile open.
  2. In Edge, open the Settings and more menu (the three dots at the top right) > Settings, then Profiles > Import browser data.
  3. Under Other import locations, click Import next to Import browser data now.
  4. Choose Firefox in the Import from list. Microsoft says Edge offers the supported browsers already installed on your device, and its documentation names Firefox as one of them on Windows and macOS.
  5. Tick what you want, click Import, and click Done when Edge says it’s finished.

Microsoft’s import policies list four kinds of data Edge takes from Firefox: favorites, browsing history, saved passwords and autofill form data. Extensions and open tabs are listed for Google Chrome only, so your add-ons stay in Firefox; look for Edge versions of the ones you need.

Firefox’s names in Edge

FirefoxEdge
BookmarksFavorites
Bookmarks ToolbarFavorites bar
Other BookmarksOther favorites
Bookmarks MenuNo matching folder
TagsNo counterpart
Library, Ctrl+Shift+Oedge://favorites, also Ctrl+Shift+O

After a direct import, open edge://favorites and check Favorites bar and Other favorites for the new items. A file import is easier to spot: Microsoft says it appears in a folder on the Favorites bar that may be named Imported.

Method 2: export bookmarks.html from Firefox

  1. In Firefox, open the Library (Ctrl+Shift+O, or Cmd+Shift+O on a Mac), choose Import and Backup > Export Bookmarks to HTML… and save the file. Exporting Firefox bookmarks has more.
  2. In Edge, go to Settings > Profiles > Import browser data and, under Other import locations, click Import next to Import browser data now.
  3. Set Import from to Favorites or bookmarks HTML file, click Choose file, select the file and click Open. Click Done at the end.

Firefox writes your Bookmarks Menu items at the top level of the file, with Bookmarks Toolbar and Other Bookmarks as folders beside them. Mobile Bookmarks, where bookmarks from Firefox on your phone arrive through Firefox Sync, isn’t included. If you need those, save a backup from the same menu (Import and Backup > Backup…) and turn the .json file into HTML with our Firefox backup converter, which keeps them. Importing bookmarks into Edge covers the other sources Edge reads.

Passwords

The direct import can bring saved passwords. For Firefox on another computer, move them through a CSV file:

  1. In Firefox, click the menu button > Passwords. On that page, open the three-dot menu, choose Export Passwords…, click Continue with export and save the file.
  2. On Edge’s Import browser data page, click Import next to Import passwords now, set Import from to Passwords CSV file and choose the file.
  3. Delete the CSV. Mozilla warns that the exported passwords aren’t encrypted.

Common problems

Questions

Can I import bookmarks from Firefox to Edge?

Yes. Edge reads Firefox directly from Settings > Profiles > Import browser data when both are on the same computer, and it imports a bookmarks.html file exported from Firefox anywhere else.

Can you transfer bookmarks and passwords from Firefox to Edge?

Yes. The direct import can include saved passwords. Or export a CSV from Firefox’s Passwords page and import it with Import passwords now on Edge’s Import browser data page.

Where do Firefox bookmarks go in Edge?

Into your favorites. A file import appears in a folder on the Favorites bar, which may be named Imported; after a direct import, check Favorites bar and Other favorites on edge://favorites.

How do I move bookmarks from Firefox to Edge on a new computer?

Export bookmarks.html from Firefox’s Library on the old computer, copy it over and import it in Edge with Import browser data now > Favorites or bookmarks HTML file.

Use Chrome or Brave as well?

Stackboard is a free extension for Chrome and Brave that turns the new tab page into a board of your own bookmarks. No account, nothing leaves your browser.
