How to bookmark all your open tabs in Chrome at once
Press Ctrl+Shift+D (Cmd+Shift+D on a Mac), name the folder and click Save. Chrome bookmarks every tab in the current window into that folder, and each tab group becomes a subfolder with the group’s name.
Bookmark every tab in a window
- Start it any of these ways:
- Press Ctrl+Shift+D, or Cmd+Shift+D on a Mac.
- Click the three-dot menu, then Bookmarks and lists › Bookmark all tabs.
- Right-click an empty part of the tab strip, next to your last tab, and choose Bookmark all tabs.
- In the Bookmark all tabs window, type a name for the new folder.
- Pick where it goes, such as Bookmarks bar or Other bookmarks. Click New folder if you want to put it inside a folder that doesn’t exist yet.
- Click Save.
Your tabs stay open. A few details worth knowing:
- It saves every tab in this window, pinned tabs included, even if you’ve selected only a few.
- Other windows aren’t included. Repeat the shortcut in each window you want to keep.
- With only one tab open the command is greyed out. Press Ctrl+D to bookmark that tab.
- Two tabs showing the same page become two bookmarks.
What happens to tab groups
Chrome keeps your groups. Each tab group becomes a subfolder named after the group, holding that group’s tabs, and tabs outside any group go straight into the main folder. A group without a name gives you an unnamed subfolder, which you can rename in the Bookmark Manager.
Reopen the tabs later
Right-click the folder on the bookmarks bar or in the Bookmark Manager and choose Open all, Open all in new window or Open all in new tab group. On the bookmarks bar each label also shows how many tabs will open, and Chrome asks you to confirm before opening a large batch.
Bookmark only some tabs
Chrome has no command for bookmarking selected tabs. Right-clicking highlighted tabs offers grouping, moving, pinning, muting and closing. Give the tabs a window of their own first:
- Select the tabs: Ctrl+click each one (Cmd+click on a Mac), or click the first and Shift+click the last.
- Drag them out of the window. They open together in a new window.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+D there and save the folder.
- Drag the tabs back, or close that window.
Bookmark a single tab group
Right-click the group’s name in the tab strip and choose Move group to new window, then press Ctrl+Shift+D in the new window. The folder you save holds one subfolder with the group’s tabs. Chrome also keeps closed tab groups for you, which is a different feature: see how to save tab groups in Chrome and turning tab groups into bookmarks.
Save selected tabs, or save and close in one step
Stackboard adds two things Chrome lacks here. Select a few tabs, open its toolbar popup and one tap on a stack saves just those. Stash this window (Alt+Shift+S) saves the window’s tabs as bookmarks, one stack per tab group, then closes them; pinned tabs stay open. Both create ordinary Chrome bookmarks that show up on your new tab page.
Questions
What is the shortcut to bookmark all tabs in Chrome?
Ctrl+Shift+D on Windows, Linux and ChromeOS, and Cmd+Shift+D on a Mac. It saves every tab in the current window to a new folder.
Why is Bookmark all tabs greyed out?
The window has only one tab, or an administrator has turned off bookmark editing. With one tab, press Ctrl+D to bookmark it.
Does bookmarking all tabs close them?
Your tabs stay open. Close the window yourself once the folder is saved, or use a stash that saves and closes in one step.
Can I bookmark the tabs from every window at once?
Chrome works one window at a time, so press the shortcut in each window. Stackboard’s Declare tab bankruptcy saves every tab in every window in one go.
