How to export Brave bookmarks and import them into Chrome
Export your bookmarks from Brave’s Bookmark Manager and import the file into Chrome. Chrome’s import window has no Brave option, and Brave Sync only connects Brave browsers, so a bookmarks file is the way across.
Step 1: export from Brave
- Open the Brave menu (three lines at the top right) and choose Bookmarks > Bookmark manager, or type
brave://bookmarks. - Click the three-dot More options menu at the top right of the page.
- Choose Export bookmarks and save the HTML file.
Brave is built on Chromium, so its bookmarks have the same layout as Chrome’s (bookmarks bar, Other bookmarks, Mobile bookmarks) and the file needs no conversion.
Step 2: import into Chrome
- In Chrome, open the Bookmark Manager: Ctrl+Shift+O (Cmd+Option+B on a Mac).
- Click the three-dot menu at the top right, choose Import bookmarks and pick the file.
On a Chrome with an empty bookmarks bar, your Brave bar items land on the bar, and everything from Brave’s Other bookmarks and Mobile bookmarks arrives in a folder called Imported at the end of it. If Chrome’s bar already has bookmarks, the whole lot goes into Imported. Drag folders into Other bookmarks if you want the old layout back.
No working Brave? Convert its bookmarks file
If Brave won’t start, or the bookmarks are on an old drive, use Brave’s own Bookmarks file. On Windows it sits in %LOCALAPPDATA%\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\Default; in a working Brave, brave://version shows the folder next to Profile Path. Copy the file, drop it into our bookmarks JSON to HTML converter and import the HTML file it gives you. Brave uses Chrome’s format, so the converter reads it as is.
What stays in Brave
- Passwords: export them from
brave://password-manager/settings, import the CSV in Chrome under Google Password Manager > Settings > Import passwords, then delete the CSV. - History and open tabs: Chrome has no Brave importer, so these stay behind.
- Extensions: Brave installs extensions from the Chrome Web Store, so add the same ones to Chrome from there.
- Brave-only settings such as Shields, Rewards and the new tab dashboard have no Chrome counterpart.
Problems you might hit
- Duplicates: Chrome doesn’t skip bookmarks it already has. Import twice and you get Imported (1); delete it, or clean the export with our duplicate bookmark finder.
- No bookmarks bar in Chrome: press Ctrl+Shift+B (Cmd+Shift+B on a Mac) to show it; showing the bookmarks bar has the other ways.
- Synced to every device: when Chrome saves bookmarks in your Google Account, the imported folder reaches all your signed-in devices, so tidy up on one computer first.
Used Stackboard in Brave? It runs in Chrome too, and its spaces are ordinary bookmarks in a Stackboard folder, so they’re in your export. After importing, drag the Stackboard folder out of Imported into Other bookmarks, then add Stackboard to Chrome and your board is back.
Questions
Can I import bookmarks from Brave to Chrome directly?
No. Chrome’s import window doesn’t list Brave. Export from brave://bookmarks (More options > Export bookmarks) and import the HTML file in Chrome’s Bookmark Manager.
Can Brave and Chrome bookmarks sync?
No. Brave Sync connects Brave browsers and Chrome sync runs through your Google Account, so they never meet. Export again when you want Chrome to catch up.
Where do Brave bookmarks end up in Chrome?
On the bookmarks bar if Chrome’s was empty, with the rest in a folder called Imported at the end of the bar. On a bar that already has bookmarks, everything goes into Imported.
Will my Brave passwords come too?
Not with the bookmarks file. Export them at brave://password-manager/settings and import the CSV in Google Password Manager.
Try Stackboard
A free Chrome extension that turns your new tab into a board of your own bookmarks. No account, nothing leaves your browser.
